WHY YALPAE

Our Purpose

Young African Leaders, Pioneers and Entrepreneurs (YALPAE) exists to prepare a capable, conscious and responsible generation of African youth.

The organisation was established on the principle that youth leadership is not a future event, but a present responsibility.

Through structured programs, accountable leadership systems and culturally grounded development, YALPAE equips young people to actively shape their societies, economies and governance structures.

Operating in accordance with its Constitution and governing instruments, YALPAE serves as a platform where African youth are not merely beneficiaries, but decision-makers, builders and custodians of their collective future.

The Problem We Address

Africa’s youth population is expanding rapidly. While this presents immense opportunity, several persistent challenges undermine sustainable progress:

  • Delayed orientation and preparation

Many young people receive education and training without early guidance on viable pathways, resulting in skills without direction and potential without structure.

  • Limited access to leadership and decision-making spaces

Youth participation is often symbolic rather than substantive, leaving young people excluded from meaningful responsibility in shaping institutions and communities.

  • Economic barriers and unemployment

Weak transitions between education and economic participation leave many capable young people without clear routes to sustainable livelihoods.

  • Cultural disconnection

Growing detachment from African languages, history and identity weakens confidence, belonging and the ethical foundations of leadership.

YALPAE was founded to respond to these challenges through structured preparation, responsible leadership development and practical economic engagement.

Our Mandate
